Speaker Bios:

  • Emily Guglielmo

Emily Guglielmo, SE, PE, F.SEI is a Principal and Group Manager at Martin/Martin, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She serves as Chair of the NCSEA Code Advisory Committee, which oversees national-level engagement in structural code development. Emily has over 20 years of experience in structural engineering practice, leadership, and advocacy, and is a Fellow of ASCE/SEI. She is passionate about advancing the profession through technical excellence, mentorship, and service.

The NCSEA Code Advisory Committee (CAC) brings together subject matter experts from across the country to provide technical input into national structural codes and standards. Its work centers on two key focuses: influencing codes and standards and educating practicing engineers on their use and impact. CAC ensures the profession’s voice is represented while supporting members through resources and education.

    Ed Quesenberry, SE

Ed Quesenberry is Founding Principal of Equilibrium Engineers located in Beaverton, Oregon.  Ed has over 35 years of experience in the structural engineering industry and over those years, he has found his involvement in his state SEA and NCSEA to be fundamental to his professional and personal growth.  He has served as President of both the Structural Engineers Association of Oregon and NCSEA and is the current chair of the We SEE Task Group that is part of the NCSEA Communications Committee.

The mission of the NCSEA Communications Committee is two-fold: to promote and enhance the communications between NCSEA and its member SEAs and to elevate the perceived value of structural engineers through advocacy, public awareness and outreach initiatives. The committee has 3 task groups dedicated to distinct aspects of this mission; Collaboration & Support, Public Awareness & Outreach, and We SEE Above & Beyond. Currently, the Communications Committee is comprised of 24 practicing engineers from 17 different SEAs, and is always looking for new voices to add to the conversation and new perspectives to inform its progress.

    Derek Hansen, PE

Derek Hanson is the President of Structural Engineering Excellence, Inc. and holds professional engineering licenses in both Arizona and California. He serves as a Structures Specialist for the FEMA Arizona Task Force One and as a Co-Chair with the Arizona Structural Engineers Emergency Response Committee. Derek is the Co-Chair for NCSEA SEER Committee and is a CALOES Assessor, Coordinator, and Instructor.

SEER is the Structural Engineering Emergency Response committee of NCSEA. Our purpose is to provide training, engagement, and connections to help structural engineers to get involved with the disaster response community. We do this through presenting the CalOES SAP training, maintaining a roster of trained individuals through the Disaster Response Alliance, and helping connect trained individuals with disaster response managers in affected areas after a disaster strikes.

    Nathan Holt, PE

Nathan is a professional engineer with Meyer Borgman Johnson in Tempe, AZ. He has 7 years of industry experience designing commercial buildings comprised of concrete, steel, and masonry. He is an SEAoA representative to the NCSEA Sustainable Design Committee and has also been a leader with the Carbon Leadership Forum Phoenix Metro Hub. He is a leader of MBJ’s Sustainability Knowledge Committee and helps to manage their signatory status with the SE2050 Commitment Program.

The Sustainable Design Committee advances NCSEA’s vision by promoting sustainable design practices within the profession of structural engineering. The Committee supports the formation of sustainable design committees within individual Structural Engineers Associations and regularly corresponds with those state-level committees. One of the initiatives of the Committee is sharing/disseminating educational material, white papers, presentations, etc. created at the local level to all Structural Engineers Associations. The committee partners with complementary organizations such as the SEI Sustainability Committee to share information and develop best practices. The Committee also advocates for the structural engineering community with respect to policy and code development.

    Cristopher Montalvo

Structural Engineer with experience working in an A/E firm on education, commercial, renovation/restoration, and healthcare projects. Strong engineering professional with a Master of Science - MS focused in Structural Engineering from Virginia Tech.

The Young Member Support Committee advances NCSEA’s commitment to promoting the growth of emerging engineers into successful, professional engineers and future leaders of the structural engineering profession. All SEA members ages 35 and younger are welcome to participate in Young Member initiatives.

    Stephanie Rae Arizabal

Practicing structural engineer with over a decade of experience, committed to holistic engineering solutions and cultivating meaningful relationships. Passionately engaged in disaster response and structural reconnaissance at local, state, and national levels, including active participation in urban search and rescue operations. Dedicated to continuous growth and the mentorship of emerging engineers, I strive to uplift those around me, providing both guidance and advocacy. My approach is highly personable, prioritizing a deep understanding of client personas and visions to effectively execute tailored engineering solutions. I believe strongly in the power of interpersonal dynamics and collaboration to foster innovation. My industry involvement spans technical writing, research, and disaster response, with a deep personal commitment to eliminating inequities within the structural engineering profession.

The Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity Committee (SE3) raises awareness and promotes dialogue on professional practice issues to improve engagement and equity in the structural engineering profession. These efforts advance NCSEA’s mission to support structural engineers to be successful leaders and NCSEA’s commitment to improving equity, diversity, and opportunity in the profession.
